Our Commitment to a Low Stress Environment

We have committed to providing as low stress environment to pets in our hospital. This means…

We have provided training for our whole team

  • We have set a policy and provided training to all staff to handle pets gently, carefully and with respect.
  • We have provided hospital meetings to learn how we may best approach your pet, how our body language affects them and how important it is to keep our voices low and as calm as possible.
  • We learned that carriers should be handled like a FRAGILE package to encourage your pet feeling secure.
  • We recognize the signs of fear and stress in your pets and we advocate for them.
  • We are aware of individual preferences; some pets are better in an examination room with you, some are better in the treatment area and may be quieter away from “mom and dad”.

We are sensitive to your pet’s experience

  • We use pheromone products in our examination rooms. These are scents that mimic the calming pheromones of the dog or cat.
  • We can warm towels for the tables, cover carriers, scent towels with pheromones, use mats on tables for secure footing and give pets quiet time to adjust.
  • We are committed to a quieter environment when handling your pet as much as possible. In hospital we have separate cat and dog wards and a recovery area for fragile pets.

We encourage your partnership

  • Ask us if you think your pet is highly stressed in a hospital environment and would benefit from some medication prior to their visit.
  • Feel free to bring in your pet’s favourite treat to help make the examination more enjoyable.
  • You are welcome to call one of our trained technicians ahead of the visit to assist with addressing any concerns. We are happy to discuss your pet’s individual preferences.

Cat’s Matter!

  • The layout of our reception area is intended to be accommodating for our feline friends. Owners with cats may bring their carriers to our “Cat Condo”. This area is a reserved, quiet space for our sensitive friends; cats love to feel protected and above the commotion.

Dog thinking about ticks and fleas

Year-round protection means more peace of mind!

“Tick season” used to mean spring/summer/fall, with a break over the winter – the colder weather meant that we could take a break from worrying about these pesky bugs and the diseases they can transmit. But in the last few years, we’ve seen a change creeping up on us, with the weather staying warm later into the season, and spring arriving earlier each year – and the bugs are loving it!
