Veterinary Technician Specialties in Dentistry!

Posted: 2015-03-01

Westbridge Veterinary Hospital, an animal clinic in Mississauga.Did you know that as a registered veterinary technician, there are opportunities to specialize in certain fields of veterinary medicine? Due to a growing interest among veterinary technicians in acquiring a higher level of recognition for advanced knowledge and skills in specific disciplines, NAVTA (North American Veterinary Technician Association) developed the Committee on Veterinary Technician Specialties (CVTS). The Committee provides a standardized list of criteria and assistance for societies interested in attaining Academy status. One of the specialty fields includes veterinary dentistry, and we are proud to let you know that our head technician, Becky, is in her second year of this two year veterinary technician specialty (VTS) program.

In addition to a rigorous written and practical examination at the end of the program, there are extensive continuing education requirements for completion of the accreditation including numerous annual conferences and wet-labs, as well as meticulously detailed case logs, case reports, and much more. In addition, she spends extra time working alongside board certified veterinary dentists to attain the level of experience required to complete this program.

We strive to offer the highest level of veterinary dental care here at Westbridge Veterinary Hospital, and this serves as just another example of that! We wish Becky the best of luck with the second year of her program.
