Wishing Dr. Hylands a Safe and Uneventful Recovery

Posted: 2013-12-17

Dr. Bob Hylands, a Veterinarian at Westbridge Veterinary Hospital in Mississauga. For those clients who we will be seeing over the next couple of months, there is going to be something very different about Westbridge. One of our beloved doctors, Dr. Bob Hylands, has just undergone a major life-saving cardiac surgery.

Dr. Hylands was recently diagnosed with coronary artery disease, a condition in which plaque builds up inside the arteries that supply oxygen directly to the heart muscle. As plaque accumulates, less blood and oxygen is able to reach the heart muscles, and can eventually result in a heart attack. Being very in tune with his body, holding a black belt in martial arts, his condition quickly progressed over the past few weeks, and this past Thursday he was admitted to the hospital for a triple bypass surgery.

We are extremely blessed to be able to write this blog entry to let you – our clients and friends – know that his surgery was a complete success, and that he is in stable condition recovering at the hospital. We are beyond grateful to the amazing surgical team that saved Dr.Bob’s life, as we don’t know what we would do without him. While he goes through the recovery process, he will be sadly be unable to work over the next 2 – 3 months. For him, this will likely be the hardest part of his recovery, as he takes great joy and passion in caring for our furry friends on a daily basis. We’ve often equated him to be similar to a Labrador Retriever: fun, playful and intelligent, but full of energy and needing to be constantly doing something, otherwise they end up chewing the drywall, redecorating the house, and all other sorts of mischief. Dr. Buller, his wife, will have to keep him muzzled and crated whenever she isn’t home to supervise :).

During this Christmas and holiday season, this has been an important reminder to us all that in the hustle and bustle of everyday life, we need to make sure that we cherish every moment we can with the people that we love, and the people that love us. Bob, we wish you a speedy and uneventful recovery, will miss you in your absence, and will be counting down the days until your return.
