Blood Pressure Monitoring

All of our surgical procedures have blood pressure measurements as part of our standard monitoring while your pet is under anesthetic.

Accurate readings can also be taken while your pet is awake. We find that most animals tolerate the cuffs very well and seem undisturbed while their blood pressure is being measured.

The high definition oscillometry measuring system allows for very accurate readings while being unobtrusive to the pet. It is also less affected by movement than many other blood pressure monitoring systems. Measurements are important to check for pressures that are too high or too low.

Hypertension (high blood pressure) is a real condition in our pets, especially for those with kidney disease. Very high blood pressures can result in headaches and blindness through acute retinal detachment. Hypotension (low blood pressure) can occur with some medications. Taking frequent blood pressure measurements can help to properly manage these conditions.
