Cats are unique as they are not only predators but also prey. It gives them the unique ability to be able to “hide” symptoms when they are ill. Blood tests are an important way we can detect illness and early signs of disease.

How long does it take to get blood test results?

Many basic tests can be done in-clinic, with results in just a few minutes. Other, more involved testing is sent out to our trusted laboratories and results are generally returned within a day or two.

How should I prepare my cat for their blood tests?

Not much preparation is usually necessary. Most blood testing calls for a 12 hour fast prior to testing.

How often should blood tests be done?

Ideally, blood work should be done at your pet’s annual physical exam visit. Cats that are on long term medication are recommended to have bloodwork done every six months to ensure that the current dose is accurate and that other organs are not being negatively affected.

Does your hospital perform urinalysis and biopsy?

We send out testing to a trusted laboratory and have the results sent back to us as quickly as possible and can analyze those results to give to our clients.
